Sunshine radiated through windows of every room in the McGlaughlin home this July afternoon. Well, every room except Lauren’s bedroom. Her curtains were drawn to blanket the glow, and her lights were shut off as she was lying in her bed, enveloped in her comforter. It’s not how most 16-year-olds would envision their ideal summer day. Many might be taking long drives with friends, or finding the nearest pool to let the sun kiss their skin. But Lauren’s health has made her sacrifice what some might call a normal teenager’s life.
