Don’t tell Emma Findley she’s brave. At 13, she doesn’t want to hear it.

“I’m stubborn,” says the eighth-grader at Franklin Community Middle School.

She’s also curious, creative and maybe a little confused. Confused because life as she knew it a few months ago is so very different now.

Emma has an inoperable brain tumor. “Glioblastoma,” says her mom. “Stage 4 brain cancer,” whispers Emma. She is seated at the dining room table in her Franklin home with her parents, Kari and Cal Findley.
